Burger King’s latest marketing gimmick is a punk’d style video meant to illustrate how much people care about the Whopper. At one Burger King location, they tell every customer that comes in that the Whopper has been permanently discontinued and they are no longer serving the Burger. Pointing to childhood memories and daily routines, many of the customers have somewhat of a “freakout”. Introducing, “The Whopper Freakout”:
This viral marketing strategy takes advantage of a Web 2.0 world and it should prove to be fairly effective. Look for more companies to utilize these creative, outside the box, viral opportunities as the web matures. Our question is… who is responsible for the Whopper Freakout video?
